as president of the Detroit
Chapter of The American
Jewish Committee at its an-
nual meeting on Monday at
7:30 p.m. at Temple Beth El,
where the election of officers
and the new board of directors
will take place.
The featured speaker will
be Ambassador Harvey J.
alternate U.S. representative
to the United Nations with
rank of ambassador.
During his 32-year Foreign
Service career Feldman had
assignments in Japan, Hong
Kong, Taiwan, Bulgaria and
the South Pacific.
There will be a wine and
dessert buffet. The public is

Feldman became the first
U.S. Ambassador to Papua,
New Guinea, in 1979 and two
years later was chosen by
Ambassador Jeane Kirk-
patrick to run her cabinet
level office in Washington.
In 1984, he became the
Chabad House of Eastern
Michigan will present,
"Escape from the Monastery"
with guest speaker Tovah
Mordechai, of Nottingham,
England, Sunday at 7 p.m. in
the home of Dr. Raymond and
Dorothy Failer.
Mrs. Mordechai, who has
been a Protestant minister,
will speak about her odyssey
to discover her Jewish roots.
