Philip Slomovitz, editor
emeritus of The Jewish News,
has been re-elected to the
board of the Jewish
Telegraphic Agency.
His election continues a
70-year association for the
92-year-old Slomovitz. In the
early 1920s he was asked to
be editor of the world-wide
news gathering service, but
declined because of the objec-
tions of his parents to his
moving to New York.
He was placed on the board
at the insistence of Zionist
leader Dr. Nahum Goldniann.
Slomovitz gained ex-
perience at the Detroit News
before becoming editor of the
Detroit Jewish Chronicle. He
founded The Jewish News in
1942 and bought the Jewish
Chronicle in 1951.
Slomovitz continues to be
active at The Jewish News,
