...modowaira04. 11,1414.1±0.,

prepared entrees and the
muses of a startlingly ac-
curate palmist.
For the listening pleasure of
the gathered newly single,
David plays some classics .. .
Liszt and Chopin interpreta-
tions are his preferences .. .
along with standards and pop
tunes.
Even happily married folks
wishing to be served a fresh
slice of world-class piano .. .
close up . . . should catch the
David Syme (or Michael Hen-
don) show at Rhinoceros .. .
Radio City Music Hall
patrons have appreciated this
sort of talent from afar for a
long time . . . Now folks can
sit around the pianist who
has thrilled concert audiences
across the globe.
IF YOU'VE ever complain-
ed about being seated near
the kitchen at a restaurant,
how about being right in the
kitchen? . . . Now you can
reserve a table at Charlie
Trotter's in Chicago, where
food preparation secrets are
shared every Tuesday,
Wednesday or Thursday even-
ing . . . Price for the privilege
is same as in the dining rom.
ANYONE WITH a sweet
tooth will get his or her just
desserts when attending the
annual Dessert Carnival this
Sunday at the Farmington
Hills Inn, a supervised
residential care operation on
West Twelve Mile Road.
For 90 delicious minutes,
2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., the senior
citizen residents of the Inn
will serve up mouth-watering
apple and cherry pie at token
prices reminiscent of another
era . . . A serving of pie will
be $1.75, a scoop of ice cream,
50 cents, and pie a la mode, $2
. . . Baked goods will also be
sold and a raffle conducted.
Originally intended for the
grandchildren and other
family members of residents,
the Dessert Carnival will this
year open its doors to anyone
in the general public . . . All
proceeds will be used to
finance activities for the
senior citizens.
RICK MELTZER, 28 year-
old son of Harry and Nancy
Meltzer, and chef at dad's Un-
cle Harry's Deli on Mack
Avenue between 8 and 9 Mile,
competed against 21 other
restaurants . . . in minestrone
cookoff sponsored by Italian
Cultural Center on 12 Mile in
Warren.
Rick took second place for
his silver medal . . . First
went to Italian Cucina with
its Armenian chef and Polish
partner at cookoff . . . John
Stevenson of Picono's took
third place.
All were given a three-hour
time limit in which to cook
the minestrone soup. ❑
