Shavuot celebrations will
take place in the senior adult
department of the Jimmy
Prentis Morris Building of
the Jewish Community
Center. A showcase, jointly
decorated by the senior adults
and the nursery school
children, is displayed in the
lobby.
On Thursday, at 1 p.m.,
Frances Driker, a senior, will
pass a Torah scroll to a child
in the Center nursery school,
symbolizing the passing of
our Jewish tradition from one
generation to the next. This
ceremony will be followed by
a discussion of the
significance of the holiday
and by a sing-along of tradi-
tional Shavuot songs to be led
by Sonny Lipenholtz.
Harriet Berg's Tuesday
Troopers and Sonny
Lipenholtz's Senior Adult
Dancers will round out the
program. The program is
sponsored by the Yiddish
Culture Club and will take
place in Jaffe Hall.
The Koffee Klatch will
serve ice cream and will
reduce the price of cheese
danishes in celebration of the
holiday.
A monthly lecture series
dealing with various aspects
of Israel will be initiated on
Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the JPM
assembly hall. "Fabs" Kal-
dobsky will discuss the events
which transpired during the
years 1936-1939. Following
the lecture, the movie, Private
Benjamin, will be shown.
Chana Klein will discuss
Yiddish literature at 10:15
a.m. on Wednesday in the
library.
Abe Gornbein will conduct
the "Press Review," a current
events discussion group on
Thursday at 12:30 p.m. in
room 15.

Franklin Club
Has Celebration

Franklin Club Apartments
will celebrate "All American
Month" on Tuesday at 12:30
p.m. Royal Oak Junior High
Band will present a musical
program featuring American
composers, and VFW Post
2645 will present a colors
ceremony.

duct a series of workshops for
the legally blind or severely
visually impaired.
The workshops will deal
with techniques and skills
important to the individual's
daily maintenance and
independence.
The workshops will be held
weekly beginning July 6 at
the JPM Building from 10

Seniors Have
Dance Program

The senior adult depart-
ment of the Jewish Corn-
munity Center will celebrate
30 years of dance at the
Center with a program
presented by the Festival
Dancers and Tuesday
Troupers on June 12 in the
DeRoy Theater of the
Maple/Drake Building.
A dessert buffet will be
served at 12:30 p.m. with the
performance beginning at 1
p.m. There is a nominal
charge for the program. Ad-
vance reservations are
requested.

The Oak Park Senior
Outreach office will sponsor a
program on June 20 at 12:30
p.m. Attorney Robert Essick
will speak on power of at-
torney, wills and nursing
homes.
A question/answer session
will follow. The program will

Senior Pageant
Seeks Enrolees

The Ms. Senior Michigan
Pageant, Inc., is accepting ap-
plications from qualified con-
testants who wish to compete
for the Ms. Senior Michigan
1990 crown. Applicants must
be age 60 or older by Oct. 5
and a Michigan resident. The
deadline for receipt of applica-
tions is July 7.
