MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND HOT DOG SPECIAL! Atitsvv, BLOOMFIELD HILLS 1801 South Telegraph Road to- Just South of Orchard lake Rd. Since the People's Republic of China is the hot new tourist destination, it's possi- ble that some of you may be going there soon. We didn't find any "three-star- Michelin" restaurants there, but we did find that there are several excellent continental and western style restau- rants, especially in Beijing and Shanghai. Beijing offers, as one exam- ple, Maxim's. Yes, a French restaurant in China (opened by Pierre Cardin.) The new hotels for foreign tourists in China almost all have western style restaurants. The Sheraton Hua Ting has both a French and Italian style restaurant. Even the Holiday Inn in remote Guilin had a coffee shop with very American versions of ham- burgers, grilled cheese, tuna fish, French fires and Cokes. So don't worry about find- ing an alternative to native Chinese cuisine if you are planning a trip there. And you may be surprised how tasty the various regional cuisnes are! I can't close without men- tioning two restaurants in the United States that are special favorites of ours. Auberge de Soleil in the Napa Valley, about an hour north of San Francisco, is one of these. You must realize by now that we are easily seduced by a romantic setting, such as this one. The restaurant is set in a small inn that is all ar- ches, soft pastels and lovely porches and perched on a hilltop overlooking lovely grape arbors. The hospitality is warm and unaffected. The presentation is truly beautiful. Every plate is a work of art and reminds you of the great European restaurants. Let's end up closer to home, in New York, at our first choice there, Le Cirque. This is certainly one of the finest restaurants in the country, yet you will find a warm welcome, attentive but un- pretentious service and food always of the very highest quality. The black sea bass wrapped in the potato crust with a delicious sauce is one of their specialties that I find ir- resistible. And always leave room for one of their wonder- ful, beautiful-to-look-at and better-to-eat desserts. A final word of advice about all these restaurants; reserve well ahead, take money and forget about calories. sla VIENNA ALL-BEEF OR WILNO KOSHER 334-2444 -A4t HOT DOGS 9 a.m. to 11:30 am. $550 4,4t t-41 per person •Nri I ■i RESERVATIONS RECOMMENDED Authentic Lebanese Food OPEN 7 DAYS A WEEK Mondays Thru Thursdays 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays 11 a.m. to 12 Mid.
