opt for the excitement and

Ross-Slepkov offers her rule of
thumb for survival in the
Jewish State:
"You have to have a very
clear idea of why you're here,"
she says. "You have to put all
the disappointments and
frustrations into perspective
and take the long view." ❑

Election Fraud
Evidence Found

Tel Aviv (JTA) — State Com-
ptroller Miriam Ben-Porat
says she has found evidence of
possible criminal offenses by
government officials over the
past two years.
In her annual comptroller's
report, submitted to the
Knesset last week, Ben-Porat
said she has asked Attorney
General Yosef Harish to in-
vestigate "between 8 and 10
cases of suspected criminali-
ty."
The 1,084-page document
was said to be the most
critical and scathing report to
date on the operations,
failures, shortcomings and er-
rors of the government since
the comptroller's office was
established 39 years ago.
Ben-Porat, a retired
Supreme Court justice, said
her investigation uncovered
many instances of negligence,
politicization of the economy,
election fraud and disregard
of the public interest.
She was especially hard on
the politicization of the civil
service, citing many instances
of politicians favoring
members of their own parties,
regardless of qualifications.
She accused Labor and Likud
of blatant favoritism.
In a departure from past
practice, Ben-Porat announc-
ed that she will publish next
month the names of in-
dividuals who violated the
election laws by contributing
more than $30,000 after the
Aug. 20 deadline last year.
The elections were held in
November.

Vanunu Awaits
Court's Ruling

Jerusalem (JTA) — The
High Court of Justice ended
four days of hearings last
week on the appeal of con-
victed atomic spy Mordechai
Vanunu. It will render a deci-
sion at a later date.
The former technician at
the nuclear facility at
Dimona is serving an 18-year
prison sentence for giving a
British newspaper detailed
information, including
photographs, of Israel's alleg-
ed nuclear weapons
capability.
