In the latest move of Opera-
tion Recognition's efforts to
convince the International
Committee of the Red Cross
to accept Israel's Magen
David Adorn Society, Jewish
legislators have introduced
resolutions in nine states call-
ing for its recognition by the
international board.
Michigan State Sen. Jack
Faxon, D-Farmington Hills,
recently introduced the
special resolution to the
Michigan Senate. He then for-
warded the resolution to Cor-
nelio Sommaruga, the ex-
ecutive director of the Inter-
national Committee for the
Red Cross, who is based in
Geneva. The other legislators
also sent drafts of their
resolutions to Geneva.
Rabbi Rubin Dubin, inter-
national chairman of Opera-
tion Recognition, said this is
the first time legislators have
mustered forces to seek
recognition for the group.
The International Red
Cross has not recognized
Magen David Adorn, osten-
sibly because it does not use
either of the organization's
symbols: A red cross or the
red crescent of the Arab
countries.
