Sports, Racing
Auction Slated

The Detroit Grand Prix
Vintage Sports and Race Car
Auction opens at noon June
17 at Cobo Hall with the
preview of 85 rare and vin-
tage automobiles showcasing
the history of racing and
exotic sports cars.
The auction begins at 6
p.m., with bidding on the
Chevrolet Engineering
Research Vehicles I and II,
Ford GT 40s, Shelbys and Cor-
velles, plus European cars
such as Aston Marton, Fer-
rari, Jaguar, Lamborghini
and Maserati as well as other
specially-built racing cars.
There is a charge. Proceeds
go to the Detroit Institute for
Children.

Flint's Goldstein
Gains U.S Spot

Philadephia, Pa. — Joel
Goldstein of Flint, Mich., is
one of five players named to
the United States badminton
team for July's 13th Mac-
cabiah Games in Israel.
Goldstein, 21, a two-time
All-American in the sport at
Arizona State University, will
join Joel Kiernan, 20, also
ASU; Gil Fried, 24, of Ohio
State; Carla Marshack, 19, of
Bowling Green State in Ohio;
and Kim Cantor, 31, of
Washington, D.C., on the
team.
Team size was trimmed
from six to five players when
the men's doubles were
changed to mixed doubles, ap-
parently to encourage coun-
tries to participate in the
sport, according to Cantor,
the U.S. team's player-coach:
A minimum of four countries
is needed to include a sport in
the Maccabiah.

Fame Games
Set Aug. 27

The Michigan Jewish
Sports Hall of Fame's third
annual Fame Games for the
developmentally disabled will
be Aug. 27 at the Jewish Com-
munity Center Maple/Drake
Building.
The Fame Games are com-
petitions ranging from
basketball to a 25-yard dash,
culmnating in a banquet in-
Shiffman Hall.
The Games are a coopera-
tive effort of the Jewish Com-
munity Center, Jewish Asso-
ciation for Retarded Citizens
and the Michigan Jewish
Sports Hall of Fame.
Volunteers are needed to help
with the Games. For informa-
