I YOUTH 1 Young Israel Lists Winners The Young Israel Council. of Metropolitan Detroit an- nounced the 1989 winners of the Louis A. Horowitz Memorial Youth Awards. The winners are: Yedida Cohen, seventh-eighth grade category; Nancy Berman, ninth-lOth grade category; and Ariel Schochet, 11th-12th grade category. The winners were selected based on a paper on one of three topics: write a letter to Palestine Liberation Organi- zation leader Yassir Arafat explaining why you agree or disagree with his demand for a Palestinian state; "In every generation they stand against us to destroy us" — give three examples of generations in which this was true, describe "they" and the levels of their success; and discuss your feel- ings about the phrase "It is difficult to be a Jew."
