Program Helps
Homemakers
,
Jewish Vocational Service
(JVS), a non-sectarian agency,
offers an on-going displaced
homemaker program funded
by the Michigan Department
of Labor, Office of Women and
Work, for individuals in
Wayne and Oakland
Counties.
Displaced homemakers are
women who, through divorce,
separation, widowhood or
disability of spouse, have lost
their source of economic sup-
port. After spending a sub-
santial number of years in the
home caring for family
members, displaced home-
makers find returning to the
job market a difficult
transition.
The JVS displaced home-
maker program provides
vocational assessment, voca-
tional counseling, job seeking
skills and job placement
assistance. Eligibility is
based on marital and employ-
ment status. There are no in-
come guidelines.
Interested applicants
should call Sherri Lumberg
or Ruth Canada, 559-5000.
