Ten area high school and
college students have been
selected to receive scholar-
ships to help them study in
Israel this summer.
The awards, offered by the
Jewish Community Center
and the Samuel Linden and
the Milton Steinhardt
families, were designed to
enable outstanding youths to
pursue their studies in Israel.
Those chosen to receive the
Steinhardt award are: Perl
Fine, Beth Phillips, Guy
Rosenthal, Susan Schlussel
and Susan Sinai. Recipients
of the Linden scholarship in-
clude Tracey Hammerman
and Oleg Kaganovich of
Grand Rapids, Joel
Finkelman, Nikki Kaczander
and Howard Norber.
The students will leave for
Israel following the conclu-
sion of the school year.

Congregation B'nai Israel
has added eight classrooms
and a library to its existing
building. There has been a
branch of the United Hebrew
Schools at B'nai Israel for six
years, and classes met in the
social hall.
Starting in September
1989, classes will be held in
the new building.
Beginning in September
the aleph classes will meet for
six hours a week in confor-
mance with the standards of
the Conservative movement
of metropolitan Detroit.
