She will be accompanied by local pianist Bernard Katz. The program will include works by Casals, Falla, Rimsky- Korsakov, Bruch's "Kol Nidrei," Bloch's "Shlomo," and the premiere of a new sonata, "To Ofra," by Cana- dian composer Sruel Glick. Ofra Harnoy was born in Israel in 1965. She studied with her father, with William Pleeth in London, Vladimir Orloff in Toronto, and in master classes with Mstislav Rostropovich, Pierre Fournier and Jacqueline du Pre. Short- ly after her family moved to Canada, she made her profes- sional debut at age 10 as a soloist with the Boyd Neel Or- chestra in Toronto. Her debut was soon followed by solo engagements with both the Toronto and Montreal sym- phony orchestras. Harnoy has since appeared as soloist with numerous ma- jor orchestras in the United States, Canada, Japan, England, France, Holland, Israel, Denmark, Belgium, Venezuela and Spain. She has recorded 23 solo albums, several of which won prizes competition, the 1979 Cana- dian Music Competition and the 1982 Concert Artists Guild Award in New York, the youngest ever in the 37-year history of the competition. She subsequently performed at Carnegie Hall. This year, Harnoy is touring Australia, England, France, Canada and the United States. There is no charge. For infor- mation call Shaarey Zedek, 357-5544.
