Exhibit Focuses
On African Art
Thursday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.;
Friday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
"From the Heart of Africa,"
an exhibit of masks, sculp-
ture and functional objects
from Africa, will be on display
at the Selo/Shevel Gallery,
329 S. Main, Ann Arbor,
throughout May.
This exhibition includes
both contemporary and anti-
que pieces of tribal art.
Among the masks are Twi
Wara (Antelope masks) from
Mali, buffalo masks from Up-
per Volta, hood masks from
Liberia and a variety of
masks from Zaire, the Ivory
Coast, Nigeria and Gabon.
Sculptures from Mali, the
Ivory Coast, Cameroon and
Ghana are joined by antique
Benin bronzes.
Utilitarian objects such as
fat and milk containers from
Kenya, stools from the Ivory
Coast and Liberia, and chairs
from Liberia also are
included.
Gallery hours are Monday
through Wednesday and
Saturday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.;
Art Contest
In Livonia
The Livonia Mall Amateur
Art Contest and Exhibit will
take place June 15 - 18.
The art show is sponsored
by the Livonia Mall Mer-
chants Association and is
open to all amateur artists.
Entries must be framed,
wired and ready for hanging
and size of entry not to be
larger than 4'x4'. There is no
limit on the number of entries
an individual may submit.
Prizes. for first, second and
third place will be announc-
ed. Honorable mention rib-
bons will also be awarded.
Deliver entries and fee of $3
