ming. I set the pace by swim-
ming with her in the pool,
and she shows me how to use
weights.
Jane Sherman, Arthur Hor-
witz and Marty Kraar, all
scored well on their tests.
Sherman's results were quite
impressive, although she ad-
mits heavy smoking is her
downfall.
Sherman, a grandmother,
achieved an above normal
fitness rating, measuring 13
METS on the treadmill test.
Her maximum exercise
capacity was 97 percent. Her
body fat level was 22 percent.
Yet her total heart health
score was 72 percent. Sher-
man lost 18 points due to
smoking.
Horwitz, a father of two
small boys, achieved a normal
fitness rating, measuring 13
METS on the treadmill test.
His maximum exercise
capacity was 96 percent. His
body fat level was a low 12
percent. His total heart
health score was 85 percent.
Kraar, also a father of two,
achieved a normal fitness
rating, measuring 13 METS
on the treadmill test. His
maximum exercise capacity
was 91 percent. His body fat
level was 24 percent.
My family thinks I'm going
through a phase. Maybe. But
it has lasted for 10 months. I
wasn't in a great hurry when
I started and I'm not now. I
am looking for a way of life
diet — not some quick get-in-
shape fad program. ❑

Fitness Testing
One On One Athletic Club
in West Bloomfield is offering
free fitness evaluations and
personalized exercise pre-
scriptions during May as part
