Reception To Benefit Ecumenical Institute A reception will be held Wednesday at 8 p.m. at Tam O'Shanter Country Club on behalf of the Ecumenical In- stitute for Jewish-Christian Studies. Sponsored by Helen and Norman Cohen, the reception will give supporters an oppor- tunity to hear Rev. James R. Lyons, executive director, speak about the activities of the institute. The institute focuses on the teachings of the Holocaust, combats prejudice through issues of religion and state and seeks to develop united action on behalf of Soviet Jews and Christians. institute offers The Holocaust Memorial Center tours, a lending library and resource facility, interfaith classes for youth and adults, dialogue groups for clergy and a speakers bureau. Mrs. Owen is president/CEO of Mica Consulting Corp. Owen, an attorney, is a senior partner of Miller, Canfield, Paddock and Stone. The event will begin at 6 p.m. at the Sheraton Inn in Lansing. Chairmen Gov. James J. Blanchard, Lt. Gov. Martha W. Griffiths and Attorney General Frank J. Kelley, an- nounce that Rabbi Daniel B. Syme, vice president of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations, will be the guest speaker. Rabbi Syme oversees the union's programs of outreach, education, televi- sion and film production, the Task Force on Youth Suicide as well as the UAHC Fund for Reform Judaism. Rabbi Daniel Syme Jewish National Fund's highest honor, the Tree of Life Award, will be presented to the couple.
