He leaves his wife, Mary; a

Theodore Kaplan

Theodore H. Kaplan, a real
estate developer, died April 30
at age 65.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Mr.
Kaplan lived 43 years in
Detroit. He was graduated
from Cornell University in
1943. He was a World War II
Army veteran. A lieutenant,
he was awarded the Bronze
Medal and the Purple Heart.
Mr. Kaplan was the con-
troller for Saks Fifth Avenue
in Detroit and regional stores
from 1946 until 1975. He was
a teacher of retail manage-
ment courses at Wayne State
University and Oakland
University. Mr. Kaplan was a
member of the Birmingham
Temple.
He leaves his wife, Joyce;
three sons, Jonathon, James
and Michael; a daughter,
Elizabeth; a brother, Boris of
Malibu, Calif.; and two
granddaughters.

Benjamin Kohen

Benjamin L. Kohen, an at-
torney, died April 26 at age
76.
Born in Plattsmouth, Neb.,
Mr. Kohen lived 70 years in
Detroit. He was graduated
from the Wayne State Univer-
sity Law School. Mr. Kohen
was a member of the
Michigan and American bar
associations, Congregation
Beth Achim.
He leaves his wife, Roselea;
two sons, Andrew of Harrison-
burg, Va., and Daniel of
Golden Valley, Minn.; a
daughter, Mrs. Stephen
(Naomi) Handelman; and six
grandchildren.

Joseph Weinberg

Joseph Weinberg, a retail
clothing merchant, died April
28 at age 86.
Born in Russia, Mr.
Weinberg lived 69 years in
Detroit. He was the former

owner of Connie's Children's
Wear. He retired a year ago.
Mr. Weinberg was a
member of Congregation
Beth Achim, Congregation
Shaarey Zedek and the
Jewish Community Center's
Retired Businessmen's Club.
He leaves his wife, Lea; a
son, Dr. Ben; a daughter, Mrs.
Sidney (Maxine) Kort; eight
grandchildren and five
great-grandchildren.

Ben LaBell

Ben LaBell, former owner
of LaBell Lighting in
Southfield, died April 21, at
age 77.
Born in Toronto, Ont., Mr.
LaBell lived most of his life in
Detroit, prior to retiring to
Phoenix, Ariz., in 1978. He
was a member of Downtown-
Fox Lodge of B'nai B'rith, the
Masons and the Shriners.
Mr. LaBell is survived by a
daughter, Mrs. Mark (Judy)
Silver of Phoenix; two sons,
Lyle of Scottsdale, Ariz., and
Fred of Phoenix; a brother,
Harold of Florida; and eight
randchildren. Interment
Phoenix.

Gussie Levine

Gussie Levine, co-owner of
Barney's Parking Lots in
Detroit, died April 25 at age
93.
Born in Poland, Mrs. Levine
was a member of the Jewish
Community Center's Going
Like 60s Club, Congregation
Beth Achim and Pisgah
Chapter of B'nai B'rith
Women.
She leaves two daughters,
Mrs. Sidney (Edythe)
Goldman and Mrs. William
(Constance) Adler; seven
grandchildren and three
great-grandchildren.

27 at age 72.
Born in Pittsburgh, Pa.,
Mrs. Rowlson was a book-
keeper for the UAW-Chrysler
locals from 1960 to 1985. She
was a charter member of the
Democratic Party in Redford
'Ibwnship.
Mrs. Rowlson was the co-
founder with her husband of
Concrete Wall Co. in Detroit.
she leaves three sons,
Robert M. of Milford, John S.
of Lansing and Daniel H.; two
brothers, Dr. Henry Brenner
of Laguna Niguel, Calif., and
Saul; a sister, Mrs. Carl (Lila)
Lessen; and seven
