The National Council of Jewish Women, Greater Detroit Section, will honor NCJW volunteer and com- munity leader Sylvia Druckman at its May 16 in- stallation luncheon. The event will begin with registration at 11 a.m. at Congregation Shaarey Zedek. Druckman will receive the organization's Hannah G. Soloman award, bestowed periodically by sections in memory of NCJW's founder. A graduate of Wayne State University and the Merrill Palmer Institute, Druckman has had a lifetime involve- ment in education and social change. She taught psychology and child develop- ment in an adult education program in Detroit, establishing a family life education program in Highland Park Schools and teaching life management skills for the Great Cities Project. She became a volunteer in a YWCA program for brain- damaged toddlers and taught child development classes at WSU and Mercy College. She spearheaded the creation of the mother-toddler program at the Jewish Community Center and was instrumental in establishing a pilot latch- key program in a Southfield school that would grow into a district-wide program. Her exploration into the subject of support for single Jewish parents led to the develop- ment of SPACE, now entering its 11th year. Following the formal meeting, the award presenta- tion and lunch, the Michigan Opera Theater will perform a musical program.
