DON'T FORGET TO TAKE MOM
OUT MOTHER'S DAY
MAY 14

INTERNATIONAL folk
dance co-sponsored by City of
Southfield and International
Institute of Metropolitan
Detroit is fundraiser for the
institute's ethnic program .. .
Festival is April 30, 4 to
7:30 p.m. at Southfield Civic
Center Pavilion on Evergreen
. . . with ethnic foods and 13
dance groups from various
countries.
NEW EXECUTIVE chef
at Hotel Pontchartrain is Joe
Yezbick, former Southfield
High grad who previously
spent his entire culinary arts
career in the Sheraton chain
. . . He was at the Sheraton
Oaks in 1987 . . . Joe's first
project at Hotel Pontchar-
train, with the assistance of
Master Chef Jeff Gabriel, con-
sultant, is to develop a new
breakfast menu in Elaine's,
the main dining room of
Hotel Pontchartrain, with
lunch and dinner menus to
follow.
DENNIS CHATLIN'S
cooking and catering mastery
is a hand-me-down, you might
say . . . now centered about
the very simple. name,
"Catering By Dennis."
He's the son of Joe Chatlin
and nephew of Max Chatlin,
who, with Mitchell Hyman,
also an uncle, used to work
their concessions at Michigan
State Fair grounds and a
small town near Flint, plus
auto races . . . Among other
places, they used to cater at
Convention Hall.
Joe at one time owned the
Tartar House on Cass Avenue
across from Wayne State .. .
The eatery became Midge's
Grill (still owned by Joe) and
is now a Christian Science
reading room.
Max was wed to Dennis'
mother's sister and Mitchell
married his father's sister .. .
making it one big happy
family.
Catering by Dennis has
been in operation nine years
. . . with offices at home in
Farmington and commissary
in Dearborn Heights where
extra space was necessary for
his many bookings.
Now with Dennis is Pat
Gearin, formerly alongside
Ed Janos at Money Tree, and
Joe Eggly . . . Pat is Dennis'
executive chef and Joe his
pastry chef.
Catering by Dennis has
been considered among the
tops in operations.
HERE'S ONE of the
messages you might get when
calling Milton Berle . . . "Hi!
You've reached Milton and
Ruth. We're gonna be out of
town for a few days. We found
that getting away really helps
our relationship, so I went to
Acapulco and she went to
Miami." Beep. 0
