French Festival
At Hart Plaza

To commemorate the
bicentennial of the French
Revolution (July 14, 1789),
the first Detroit Riverfront
Festival of the season will
bring to Hart Plaza on April
28-30 the music, the dance,
the drama and the arts of
France from the 18th through
the 20th centuries.
Special children's program-
ming is scheduled for each
afternoon between 1 and 3
p.m. Each evening that
weekend, "Le Jazz hot" will
host performances led by local
musicians James Wilkins,
Chris Pitts, Ed Nuccilli,
Kasuku Mafia, John Trudell
and Lyman Woodward.
Entertainment throughout
the event includes singing,
mime performances, dance,
and 18th Century fashion
shows and authentic French
court and country dances of
Detroit's original French
pioneers presented by the
Mme. Cadillac Dancers and
Musicians.
The French festival hours
are Friday and Saturday,
11 a.m.-midnight; and Sun-
day, 11 a.m.-10 p.m. There is
no admission charge.

Todd Levin premiered his

newest orchestral composi-
tion, "Turn extended dance
mix" at Carnegie Hall this
week.
Levin received his B.M.A.
degree in composition from
the University of Michigan,
and his M.M.A. degree in
composition from the
Eastman School of Music. He
is currently a D.M.A. degree
candidate and Regent's
Fellow at the University of
Michigan.
Among his awards are three
Broadcast Music Incorporated
Awards to Young Composers,
grants from the American-
Music Center and the Na-
tional Endowment for the
Arts, the Leonard Bernstein
Fellowship at the Tanglewood
Music Festival and a Mac-
Dowell Colony Fellowship.
He is the son of Cele and
Martin J. Landay of Far-
mington Hills.

Southeast Michigan MEN-
SA will hold its regular
monthly meeting at 8 p.m.
Saturday in the recreation
building of the Southfield
Civic Center. The meeting is
open to the public. There is a
