Coalition Day 1989, an an-
nual event sponsored by the
Michigan Coalition of Secular
and Humanistic Jews, will be
held April 29 at the Birm-
ingham Temple, 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
The Michigan Coalition is
comprised of the Birmingham
Temple, Sholem Aleichem In-
stitute, Workmen's Circle,
. Jewish Parents Institute and
the Ann Arbor Jewish Cul-
tural School.

Robert J. Sandler
Secular Humanistic Jewish
Perspective." Zev Katz, pro-
fessor of history at Hebrew
University and dean of the
International Institute of
Secular-Humanistic Judaism,
will be the keynote speaker.

Prof. Katz will address two
issues: "Glasnost, Perestroika
and Soviet Jews — A Chang-
ing Picture?" and "The
Israeli-Palestinian Conflict —
New Dimensions or Status
Quo." Dr. Katz is a founding
member of the Israeli
Association of Secular and
Humanistic Jews and a fre-
quent lecturer in the United
States.
Robert J. Sandler will be
honored at the luncheon
ceremony with the 1989
Michigan Coalition Leader-
ship Award.
He is a founding member of
the Michigan Coalition of
Secular and Humanistic Jews
and a past president and
board member of the Bir-
mingham Temple.
A panel session prior to
lunch will feature an open
dialogue on the growing
stature of Secular Human-
istic Judaism as a national
and worldwide movement.
Geraldyne Revzin, executive
director of the Congress of
Secular Jewish Organiza-
tions, and Miriam Jerris,
director of the Society of
Humanistic Judaism, will
participate together with
Rabbi Sherwin Wine of the
Birmingham Temple, co-
chairman of the international
federation, and Prof. Katz.
The public is invited. The
registration fee includes

Brown, Hart To Chair
Annual Seminary Dinner

Dr. Richard Brown and Dr.
Martin Hart have been
named dinner chairmen of
the annual Jewish Theo-
logical Seminary dinner set
for June 15 at Congregation
Shaarey Zedek.
Dr. Brown is vice president
of ambulatory care services,
Michigan Health Care Corp.
He was previously chief of
staff of Zieger Hospital, a
predecessor of Michigan
Health Care Corp.
He is a member of the
American and Michigan
Associations of Osteopathic
Physicians and Surgeons, as
well as vice chairman of the
board of the University of
Osteopathic Medicine and
Health Sciences, Des Moines,
Iowa. In addition, he has also
just completed a three-year
term as president of the Na-
tional Alumni Association of
the Des Moines College. He is
