David Mechanic
Kovinsky of Windsor is serv-
ing as chairman of the dinner,
which will- benefit the Bora
Laskin Scholarship Fund for
Canadian Students at
Yeshiva University.
Moe Closs is honorary
chairman of the dinner.
Members of the dinner
tribute committee include -
Sam Cohen, Coleman Fried-
man, Anna Mae Gumprich,
Max Gumprich, Pinkas Jar-
caig, Rob Katzman, Sid Katz-
man, Brenda Kovinsky and
Alan Zekelman.
Guest speaker at the dinner
will be Dr. Jeffrey Gurock,
academic assistant to the
president of Yeshiva
University.
Mechanic is a former vice
president of the Windsor
Jewish Community Council
who was instrumental in ob-
taining the present site of the
Windsor JewishCommunity
Centre.
He has been an involved
member of Shaar Hasho-
mayim since its founding, ser-
ving for 14 years on its
religious school board. He is
also a member of the Balfour
Branch of the Royal Canadian
Legion, Association of Jewish
War Veterans of Canada and
Windsor Lodge of B'nai
B'rith.
Mechanic conducted the
first door-to-door cancer drive
in Windsor and served as
chairman of the Crippled
Children's Committee. He is
also a former director of the
Downtown Retail Association
and a member of the Masons,
Shriners, Rotary Club and
Goodwill Industries.
