Some Jewish students and faculty members have expressed con- cern with what they call the paper's consistently anti- Jewish editorials. At the Jewish National Fund dinner in Ann Arbor three weeks ago, Rabbi Daniel Syme, vice president of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations, criticized the Daily for its "unsubstantiated baseless lies." After the brick-throwing in- cident, Rabbi Syme expressed his concern. "I condemn all violence from whatever source it emanates," said Syme, a U-M alumnus. "The place to settle differences is in the market place of ideas, rather than hiding beyond the cowardness of random acts of violence." Harmon argues that is what she and others are at- tempting to do. "Open dialogue is very important and even hostile dialogue is useful," he said. "I guess I think that tactics of intimida- tion really inhibit a dialogue." ❑ Contemporory Women's Foshions 20-60% Off It's Spring! 855-4464 Hunters Square • Farmington Hills everal Jewish students at Wayne State Uni- versity are seeking community support in efforts to combat Arab propaganda on campus. Sharon Goldstein, vice president of the fledgling Zionist Student Organization at Wayne, met with the Detroit Zionist Federation last week. The DZF has made a commitment for its college committee to meet monthly with student activists at the University of Michigan, Michigan State and Wayne. Students and DZF members also will meet with Jewish Community Council Presi- dent Paul D. Borman next week. Goldstein told the DZF that Arab propaganda on campus "has been ignored too long." She said students outwardly ignore the continuous Palesti- nian "information" booths and displays, but after retur- ning in January from a year of study in Israel "I couldn't live with myself if I just ig- nored it." The Zionist Student Organization is planning an Israel week at Wayne • State next fall. Goldstein made numerous calls and handed out announcements before a planning meeting last week, but no one came. She said Jewish students, as well as the general campus community, must be educated about Israel. Rabbi Louis Finkelman, director of the WSU Hillel Foundation, said only five or six students are active with the two students Zionist groups, the ZSO and Students for a Secure Israel. ❑ Flyers Defame Hillel Rabbi Two flyers distributed two weeks ago in the WSU Stu- dent Center Building attack- ed the physical characteristics and in- telligence of Rabbi Louis Finkelman, director of the Wayne State University Hillel Foundation. Students suspected Arab students were responsible, but Rabbi Finkelman was given one of the flyers by a Jewish student he describes as unstable. "I told him that he could get into big trouble for distributing that kind of material," the rabbi said. Windsor's Mechanic Honored by Yeshiva U.
