Harnick, the son of a Roma-
nian immigrant, who was
raised in a reformed Jewish
home in Chicago.
"What the people in this
community discover at the
very end of the musical are
the principles of our Constitu-
tion,' he says. "The problem
I want to leave the audience
thinking about is: Our Con-
stitution is wonderful, but our
Constitution is essentially a
piece of paper, and unless
everyone commits to keeping

it alive, then it remains a
piece of paper."
For Dragons, Harnick wrote
book, lyrics and music, which
may surprise those who aren't
aware he is also a composer
with a bachelor's degree in
music from Northwestern
University. Dragons is his
first solo musical. ❑

Are Offered

Tours of the Palace of
Auburn Hills are being of-
fered every Tuesday at 10 and
11 a.m., noon and 1 p.m. for
groups of 10 to 40.
The tours, which include
lunch at The Palace Grille,
provide a "behind-the-scenes"
look at operations of The
Palace. Among the sights are
a press box level view of the
arena, The Detroit Pistons'
locker room (pending team's

dollar television studio, a

Righteous Gentiles Cited
At Holocaust Academy

the Nazi genocide — will pay
tribute to the Righteous Gen-
tiles at the annual Holocaust
Memorial Academy April 30
at 1:30 p.m. at the
Maple/Drake Jewish Com-
munity Center in cooperation
with Holocaust Memorial
Center, Jewish Community
Council, Greater Detroit In-
terfaith Round Table of Chris-
tians and Jews, the Ecumen-
ical Division of Archdiocese of
Detroit and the Jewish
Center.
Dr. John J. Mames, chair-
man, department of oral
history and Holocaust
studies, will pay tribute to the
Righteous Gentiles. This year
Dr. Jan Karski will be the
recipient of "The Righteous
Among the Nations of the
World Award" for "displaying
humanitarian, compas-
sionate concern for others
during the era of raging Nazi
terror and for his desperate
efforts to save remnants of the
European Jews from gas
chambers and from imple-
mentation of Hitler's Final
Solution."
A Roman Catholic, Karski
was the first person in 1943 to
bring the horrors of Hitler's
Final Solution to the atten-
tion of Western leaders.
After the war Karski refus-
ed to return to his native
Poland and in 1954 became
an American citizen. In 1952,
he received his Ph.D. degree
at Georgetown University
and has been teaching
Eastern guropean affairs,
comparative government and
international affairs.
Dr. Karski related his war
experiences in the book Story
of a Secret State and is the
author of The Great Powers
