Veterans Council named him
veteran of the year for 1989.
In 1982, he was named
Michigan's veteran of the
year.
Mr. Berman managed an
auto parts store until his
retirement in 1986 when he
devoted most of his time to
veterans affairs. At the time
of his death he was national
service officer for the Jewish
War Veterans.
He was a staff sergeant
with the U.S. Army during
World War II. He was presi-
dent of the Southfield
Veterans Association and a
past department commander
of the Jewish War Veterans.
Mr. Berman was past presi-
dent of the JWV Memorial
Home Association and past
commander of Bloch-Rose
Post of the JWV.
He also was affiliated with
the Larned Post of the
American Legion and a
member of AMVETS Post No.
77 and the Disabled
American Veterans of the U.S.
Mr. Berman was chief of staff
and past president of the
Allied Veterans Council of
Wayne County.
Mr. Berman is survived by
his wife, Rosabelle; two sons,
Michael and William; his
mother, Sally Eldridge; a
brother, Seymour; a sister,
Suzanne; and one grandson.

Hyman Nudell

Hyman D. Nudell, owner of
H and N Furniture on Warren
in Detroit, died April 10 at
age 76.
Born in Russia, Mr. Nudell
live 67 years in Detroit. At
the time of his death he was
associated with May Fur-
niture in Detroit. He was an
active member of the Fur-
niture Club of Detroit ad
Mosaic Lodge of the Masons.
Mr. Nudell also was a
member of Pisgah Lodge of
B'nai B'rith and Congrega-
tion B'nai David.
He is survivd by his wife,
Dorothy; a son, J. Howard; a
daughter, Nancy Saltsman; a
sister, Mrs. Susie Please; and
five granddaughters.

Kim Hartstein

Kim Stephen Hartstein,
road and personal manager
for jazz pianist George Shear-
ing, died Feb. 22 at age 39.
Born in Detroit, Mr. Harts-
tein resided in Los Angeles,
Calif., at the time of his
death. He was graduated
from MacDowell School,
Mumford High School and
the University of Michigan,
where he was elected to Phi
Beta Kappa honorary society.

music business he was the
personal manager for many
jazz artists. In addition, Mr.
Hartstein was involved in
community service, focusing
on helping persons with
AIDS. He co-founded Positive
Living for Us, the PLUS
seminar, APT and the AIDS
Projects Together.
He is survived by a brother,
Laren Bright (nee Larry
Hartstein); a sister-in-law and
a niece, all of Los Angeles.

Abe Green

Abe Green, a residential
and commercial real estate
developer, died April 1 at age
79.
Born in Lithuania, Mr.
Green lived many years in
Michigan prior to moving to
Florida in the 1970s. He was
a member in Florida of Tem-
ple Emmanuel and was a
founder of Mt. Sinai Hospital
in Miami Beach, a founder of
Douglas Gardens in Miami
and was a 32nd degree
Mason.
He is survived by his wife,
Rose; two daughters, Noreen
Zimmer of Huntington Woods
and Ann Binkow of Williams
Island; a son, Barry Neil of
Whitestone, N.Y.; two
brothers, Irving of Miami and
Harry of St. Petersburg, Fla.;
a sister, Dorothy Cooperman
of St. Petersburg Beach; seven
grandchildren and five great-
grandchildren. Interment St.
Petersburg.

Lois Stone

Lois A. Stone, owner of
Stone Travel in Southfield,
died April 5 at age 60.
Born in Chicago, Ill., Mrs.
Stone lived more than 40
years in Detroit. She founded
her company in 1977. Mrs.
Stone was a member of
Knollwood Country Club.
She leaves a daughter-in-
law, Mrs. Marc (Andrea)
Culberson; and one
granddaughter.

Harry
Eisenshtadt

Harry Eisenshtadt, presi-
dent and chairman of the
board of Phillips Shoes, died
April 8 at age 71.
Born in Detroit, Mr. Eisen-
shtadt was a charter member
of Adat Shalom Synagogue, a
member of B'nai B'rith and
Perfection Lodge of the
Masons.
He leaves his wife, Sybil;
two sons, Gerald and James;
a daughter, Mrs. Carlos
(Susan) Romero; a brother,
Norman; and seven
grandchildren.
