FLower Show
At DIA

"Art and Flowers: A
Festival of Spring" runs
through Sunday at the De-
troit Institute of Arts. The
show includes floral arrange-
ments, demonstrations, hor-
ticultural and gardening dis-
plays. More than 50 flower ar-
rangements will complement
works of art in the museum's
permanent collection.
On Saturday, demonstra-
tions will be presented on
plant propagation by David
Smith, wild and edible
flowers by Christopher Steele,
and Ikebana, the Japanese
art of flower arrangement, by
Ibmmy Thompson
There is a charge for some

MHS Holds
Mutt Derby

The Michigan Humane
Society (MHS) will hold the
sixth annual Rosey Mutt Der-
by at the State Fair Coliseum
1:30 p.m. May 7. The event, in
which dogs race to their
owners to raise money for the
MHS, kicks off "Be Kind to
Animals" week.
There is a charge. All dogs
entered to race must have a
comercially accepted collar
and leash and state, county or
city dog license. All dogs must
have current vaccinations
against distemper, parvovirus
and rabies. Proof of vaccina-
tion is requried.

'Open -Doors'
On Passover

"Open Doors," sponsored by
the Jewish Community Coun-
cil, will feature a special pro-
gram on Passover at 6:30 a.m.
Sunday on WDIV-TV (Ch. 4).
Fred L. Goldenberg will
narrate the illustrated story
of Passover, and discuss the
holiday's relevance.
