Dryman, who holds a B.F.A degree from Wayne State University and studied at Pratt Art Institute, has shown in the Michigan An- nual XVII Show at the Art Center in Mt. Clemens, the Ninth Michigan Artists show at the Art Center at Battle Creek, the Lansing Art Gallery, and in Boston, Mass. at Tufts University. Also on exhibit are the "broken glass" pieces of Anne Haven from Grand Rapids, and the 11 co-op members: Joan Brace, Susanne Camp, Barbara Hirt (B. Ragalyi), Laura Whitesides Host, Maureen Janott, Margo LaGattuta, Diana Mullane, Sonya Persia, Lois Robbins, Linda Norton Savell and Mat- thew John Schellengerg. The show runs through April 29. Rubiner Hosts Cheng Exhibit The Rubiner Gallery, 7001 Orchard Lake Rd., Suite 430A, West Bloomfield, will present the work of Mignonette Yin Cheng on Saturday. Born in mainland China, Ms. Cheng studied art in Shanghai and Hong Kong. She emigrated to the U.S. and received her Master of Fine Arts degree from Ohio Uni- versity. She is a professor of art at the University of Michigan. In 1988, she had a one-person exhibition at the- University of Michigan Museum of Art. Ms. Cheng paints with wax emulsion, a medium she developed by combining wax, linseed oil, turpentine and oil colors. The exhibition will consist of large oils on canvas, and a group of miniature water- colors, some as small as 3x4 inches. The artist will be pre- sent for the opening reception on Saturday from 2 to 5 p.m. The exhibition continues through May 3. Homestead Has Pastel Show A new show entitled, "Pastel Verses, paintings by Timothy Yanke" will open at the Homestead Gallery, 136 S. Pontiac Tr., on Saturday at 8 p.m. The show will run through April 30. Yanke's work is a mixed- media blend of acrylic and pastel. Many layers of wash and more color are spon- taneously added until the mood of the final piece emerges. Yanke was educated in fine arts at North Texas State University and is a resident of Oak Park. A percentage of proceeds from the first week of the show will benefit Women's American ORT. Saturday's reception will include hors d'oeuvres. Yemini Mary Roehm, an internationally-recognized ceramics and sculpture artist, has been named director of historic Pewabic Pottery, 10125 E. Jefferson, Detroit. Pewabic Pottery, founded in 1903 by Mary Chase Perry, is an internationally renowned ceramics learning center, museum, gallery, archives and producer of hand-crafted architectural tile and pottery. The pottery, which derives its name from an Indian word meaning "Copper colored clay," is one of only two re- maining historic pottery facilities in the nation. Palette, Brush Show Opens An exhibition of artwork by members of the Palette and Brush Club will be featured at The Birmingham Com- munity House, 380 S. Bates, during April. The Community House show will feature oils, acrylics and watercolors.
