For recent emigres from the Soviet Union, this may be the first time they join fellow Jews in observance of the Festival of Freedom. At the Jimmy Prentis Mor- ris Jewish Community Center in Oak Park, a third seder will be conducted in Russian on April 23. Approx- imately 200 Soviet Jews are expected to attend, with at least half being recent emigres. Dr. Luba Bertoil is the coordinator. Rabbi Victor Rashkovsky of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, who will conduct the Russian seder, came to the United States as a Soviet immigrant 15 years ago and studied for the rabbinate after his arrival. Jewish Welfare Federation agencies that benefit from the Allied Jewish Campaign are working to make certain that everyone will be able to share in the holiday. In preparation, a massive housecleaning is underway at the Jewish Home for Aged's three facilities. There will be two traditional seders with large-type Haggadot for residents of Borman Hall, Prentis Manor and Fleischman Residence. Rabbi Bruce Aft, director of the Midrasha-College of Jewish Studies, will lead a model seder at Borman Hall April 19 for residents who are not able to participate in the traditional seders. Two members of each resident's family will be invited. At Fleischman, residents and their famiies are. invited to seders on both nights, to be conducted by Avi Shapiro, new director of religious ac- tivities. Guest rooms are available for families wishing to stay throughout the holi- day and have their meals at the building. Jewish Family Service and Resettlement Service are compiling the names of several hundred clients to receive assistance from Mo'os Chitim (Passover fund for the needy), which supplies mat- zot, wine and financial aid. This holiday food distribution will take place at Congrega- tion Beth Tefilo Emanuel Tikvah next week. In addition, JFS has a grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to supp- ly hundreds of clients with food certificates for the Passover holiday. Jewish Family Service counselors are specially train- ed to be sensitive to those liv- ing on their own who may ex- perience depression during the holidays. The kitchens that service Jewish Federation Apart- ments' three buildings also are being prepared. At Pren- tis Towers in Oak Park, residents and their families will participate in a seder on the first night of Passover. Senior adults living in the area who would like to attend the seder should contact the office at Prentis Towers. Throughout the holiday, they are also welcome to purchase meals in the dining room. Residents of Hechtman Apartments in West Bloom- field will attend seders on both nights. On April 16, the fifth graders at Thmple Beth El's religious school will at- tend a model seder at Hechtman.
