They visited the Holocaust Memorial Center and talked to a sur- vivor, went shopping in downtown Birmingham, visited the Cranbrook In- stitute of Science to see the Lasera show, participated in the Machar BBG homeless dance and attended services at many temples and synagogues. Many people from out of town saw the similarities between their communities and the Detroit Jewish community. BBYO as the tie is what made this weekend so special. One discussion was set aside to share ideas. This one pro- gram gave all the par- ticipants a sense of unity. All 36 of the out-of-town participants were housed by the 33 Detroiters involved. This gave everyone involved a chance to talk to someone from a different area about BBYO, Judaism or anything else they felt like discussing. "Putting the young Jewish communities of these three major cities together is an in- tegral part of the future of our Jewish culture," said Lindsey Dienstag of Chicago and Dan Loiterstein of St. Louis. Michigan Region is involv- ed in one inter-regional con- vention each year. This pro- gram, which brings together BBYOers from all over, is a highlight for everyone involv- ed. The region will par- ticipate in another inter- regional convention next year. As one IRC participant put it, the 1988-1989 inter-regional convention "was the best ever." ❑ Program Links French, U.S. Jewish Teenagers INDIVIDUALLY HANDCRAFTED FOR YOU 32108 Plymouth Rd.
