League 14-15-year old team met a Toronto JCC team at the
Maple/Drake JCC March 19. Detroit JCC teams met their
counterparts from Toronto in six games that weekend. Toronto teams
won three and tied one, although the Detroiters won the varsity
contest.

Sklar Gains
Maccabiah Job

Karen Sklar nearly earned
a trip to Israel in 1985 when
she was among the final
players cut from the U.S.
women's Maccabiah basket-
ball team. This year Sklar did
not get a chance to compete
for a spot because there is no
women's basketball in this
year's 13th World Maccabiah.
But with the help of U.S.
Committee Sports for Israel
regional vice president Max
Sheldon, Sklar will be a part
of the U.S. team. Sklar credits
Sheldon with arranging a job
for her as a junior team
chaperone.
Junior tennis players and
swimmers will compete for
four days during the games.
Sklar, the only woman
player in Detroit's B'nai
B'rith basketball league, has
coached girls' basketball and
volleyball teams at youth
Maccabi competitions.

AZA Basketball

Everyone scored as Akiba
pounded the Rebels, 56-18, in
AZA basketball at Oakland
Community College's Or-
chard Ridge Campus March
19.
Josh Cascade led Akiba
with 21 points; Brian
Schwartz scored 15 and Mark
Nakisher 12.
The Kishon Chipmunks

beat Chalutzim/Strauss,
36-27. Jeff Klein scored 11
points and Ben Keidan nine
for the winners. Jolson
trounced the Mustangs 51-19.
Dan Sperlin had 22 points
and Steve Kernis added 15 for
Jolson. Phil Siegal led Kishon
with 11.
