Born in Poland, Dr. Chap- nick was graduated from Ci- ty College of Detroit Medical School in 1934. He practiced internal medicine until he was 81. Dr. Chapnick was a founding physician of Sinai Hospital of Detroit. He was on the staff of Grace and Receiving hospitals. He was a member of the Labor Zionist movement. Dr: Chap- nick served with the United States Medical Corps team from 1942 to 1946. Dr. Chapnick leaves a son, Jerry; a daughter, Mrs. Sidney (Liela) Brode of Shaker Heights, Ohio; two sisters, Mrs. Fay Fishman. and Mrs. Norman (Rose) Broder of Skokie, Ill.; and six grandchildren. Saul Borden Saul Borden, a long-time Detroit food broker, died March 19 at age 76. He resid- ed in Chatsworth, Calif., at the time of his death. Mr. Borden was active in the food business until his retirement to California four years ago. During World War II he served in the Ninth Ar- mored Unit and was awarded a Purple Heart. He is survived by his wife, Lillian (Herman); a son, Phillip of Tarzana, Calif.; and three grandchildren. Inter- ment Chatsworth. Betty Shapiro Washington, D.C. — Betty K. Shapiro, past international president of B'nai B'rith Women, died March 18. The convenor of the Women's Plea for Soviet Jewry, Mrs. Shapiro chaired the Jewish Women's Caucus. She was a member of the B'nai B'rith Board of Gover- nors and the B'nai B'rith Women executive board and an honorary life member of the Anti-Defamation League's national commission.
