dissolved, she created the Moses Col-
lection.
When Rebecca Moses is not de-
signing, she spends time with her
husband, Louis Perlman, a publisher.
They often attend services at the
Park East Synagogue in Manhattan.
They are avid supporters of the Israel
Philharmonic, the Weizman Institute
of Science, Yeshiva University and
the Lubavitch Chasid movement.
"We have a very traditional
Jewish life. It's something that means
a lot to me," she says. Moses keeps
kosher homes in Manhattan and Sag
Harbor. And like her parents, Moses
emphasizes the importance of family.
When Moses is traveling, she
says she most regrets missing Friday
night dinner and Sabbath
observances. On one journey to
Hong Kong, she was delighted to
share the Sabbath with a Lubavitch
family.
Although her family and home
are most important, she does not
minimize the importance of her
career. A determined and ambitious
designer, Moses says, "I had to fight
for every inch of business."
She relates how nervous she
was before the debut of her spring
collection. A week before the
fashion show, her friend, who is a
rabbi, stopped by to put mezuzot on
her showroom doors.
"I was so frightened thinking of
the past," she refers to her previous
business problems. When she ex-
pressed her fears, her friend told her
that the then-current Torah portion
was the story of Lot. He reminded
her what happened to the people
who turned back — they turned into
pillars of salt. "He left me on that
note," says Moses.
