VALUE

abandoned black, Yamamoto stands
by it, offering women two choices
black dresses or black pants.
Black is the basic color on which the
Japanese launched their fashion
attack, and someone's got to hold the
fort. Outfits are cut loose. There are
short sleeves on mid-calf-length
dresses; T-shirts under full-cut pants
that taper towards the ankle; and full
dresses gathered at the hips, not the
waist.

Kensho
This lawyer-turned-color-master
toned down his collection. New for
this season are solid colors, with the
most prevalent a green series in snug-
fitting clothes. Stripes were bold,
Tartans were in vivid butterscotch.

Rose Is A Rose
Toga is a female designer who
is now in her second independent
season. She showed lots of sports
jackets, either as part of snug-fitting
plaid suits, or wide-striped jackets
over gray vest and Bermuda shorts;
white pants with fun emblems
running down the seams; and
brightly colored matching shirt-pants
combos.

Jin Abe
This is one of the more classic,
Paris-influenced designers, who
styles for an older crowd. He
showed more "Western" evening
wear than others. This season's
collection ranges from dresses to
slacks in monotone colors,
predominantly black or white, with
a fair representation of bright red,
yellow or blue.

Takezo
The flying nun made an appear-
ance, fully covered in a well-made
collection. Takezo's style is easy to
wear, loose-fitting and unpretentious.
Patterns include a burnt orange, al-
most burlap-appearing fabric. Stripes
are eye catchingly bold, yet discreet
and charming.
