Board Meeting
Slated By NCJW

The National Council of
Jewish Women, Greater
Detroit Section, will hold an
open board meeting and pro-
gram to honor its volunteers
on April 11 at the section's of-
fices in Southfield.
The meeting, which is set
during NCJW Week, will
feature 46th District Court
Judge Stephen C. Cooper.
Judge Cooper will address the
group on "Substance Abuse
in the Jewish Community!'
The event is sponsored by
the section's public relations
department, headed by Carol
Sue Coden. Marilyn Levine is
chairman of the day.
Continental breakfast and
lunch will be served. The
breakfast will begin at
9:30 a.m. For reservations,

Tikva Frymer-Kensky,
director and professor of
biblical studies, Reconstruc-
tionist Rabbinical College,
will address the second na-
tional Conference on the
Spiritual Woman at Mercy
College of Detroit, slated
April 9-11.
Her presentation, "Rachel
Imenu: The Myth of Mother
Rachel," will be given on
April 10 at 2:30 p.m.
The conference, "Remem-
bering Rachel," will pro-
vide a transcultural exchange
among women of different
faiths, ethnic background and
class. It will help develop
strategies to oppose violence,
economic and spiritual im-
poverishment, and political
and racial exclusion.

NCJW Wins
National Awards

The National Council of
Jewish Women, Greater
Detroit Section, was named
the recipient of three national
awards at NCJW's
Washington Institute.
The section received awards
for its life membership, head-
quarters fund and thrift shop
achievements.
Lois Granader was
recognized as an "emerging
NCJW leader."

Lawrence Talks
To Hadassah

The Greater Detroit
Chapter of Hadassah will
hold a brunch for Hadassah
members, Hadassah
Associates and prospective
associates on April 2.
David Lawrence, editor and
publisher of the Detroit Free
Press, will speak on
"Newspapers: Where We're
Coming From!"
Hadassah Associates are
men who have identified with
Hadassah by a one-time af-
filiation payment of $200.

Women Have
Spring Benefit

Temple Beth El Sisterhood
will host its Spring Happen-
ing on April 10. There will be
boutique shoping at 10 a.m.
Lunch will be served at noon,
and a floor show starring the
Great Pietenders will begin
after lunch.
Proceeds from the event
will help fund Temple Beth
El's program for students
with special needs. (The pro-
gram is open to any Jewish
student in the community
with any handicap.)
