Cantor Norman Rose Tonight
Professor of Talmud and Rabbinics
at the Jewish Theological Seminary
Rabbi Joel Roth, Professor of Talmud and Rabbinics
at the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York, will
speak on "WHO IS A JEW: LAW AND POLITICS;' at
Adat Shalom Synagogue on Thursday, April 6 at 7:45
P.M. There is no charge. Coffee hour to follow. Co-

honor Cantor. Norman Rose
during services 8:15 p.m.
today.
Rose has served as cantor
and music director of the tem-
ple for 17 years. He also
served as educational director
and coordinator of the bar/bat
mitzvah program. In July, he
will become cantor emeritus.
Cantor Rose is originally
from Rochester, N.Y. He at-
tended Curtis Institute of
Music in Philadlephia and
the Eastman School of Music,
where he received his masters
in music literature. At
Eastman, he received a
scholarship to study at La
Scala Opera in Milan, Italy,
for two years. After returning
to the United States, Cantor
Rose attended Hebrew Union
College-Jewish Institute of
Religion School of Sacred
Music in New York, from
which he graduated in 1956.
N.Y., where he worked as
cantor-educator for Temple
Beth Zion. Five years later he
came to Temple Emanu-El.
Following the Music Shab-
bat Service, at which selec-
tions from Felix
Mendelssohn's "Elijah" will
be presented by the congrega-
tion's adult choir, the temple
will host an oneg in Cantor
Rose's honor. The Paul Will-
ington Trio will play as part
of the festivities.

in Akron, Ohio, where he
served for 11 years as cantor-
educator. From Akron, Can-
tor Rose moved to Buffalo,
Region, Retreat at Butzel Conference Center.

Hold Concert
The Birmingham Temple
Templesigners will present
their annual concert 8:30 p.m.
March 31. The program is
"The Road lb Zion: A Secular
View," written by Diane
Bernstein and directed by Ar-

Song and narrative will
highlight Israeli heroes in-
cluding Theodor Herzl, Han-
nah Senesh and Golda Mein
The program will include

songs as well as a medley of

To Speak
Rabbi Sherwin Wine of the
Birmingham Temple will pre-
sent the last of four reviews
on the theme "Confrontation:
Jews and Other Nations"

Flames by Gregory Orfaalen.
