Zorn and Noam Koenigsberg, runners-up, were awarded silver kiddush cups. The finalists were Randee Carp, Sarah C. Eisenberger, Marlo Fogelman, Trevor Hart, Susan Katz, Marci Klain, Allison Opper, David Pollack, Sarah Richelew, Sharon R. Roth, Jacob Shimansky and David Tessler. All of the finalists received a copy of American Jewish Album — 1654 To the Present, by Allan Schoenen The students were judged on academic achievement, leadership, Jewish education, volunteer community ser- vices and an essay. The topic chosen for this year's essay was "Anti-Semitism — Per- sonal Strategies for Coping." Lisa attends Berkley High School and is in the 12th grade at Congregation Beth Sholom Religious School. She is president of the Michigan Region, B'nai B'rith Girls and president of Masada Chapter. Lisa is involved in her high school's tutoring program and is a member of the National Honor Society. The 1989 Youth Awards pro- gram is funded through the contributions of Betty and Grant Silverfarb and the leagues' Youth Awards tribute fund. The Youth Award commit- tee consists of Vice Presidents Charlotte K. Nussbaum and Eadie Albion, co-chairmen; _ Dorothy Cohen,- Charlotte Edelheit, Evelyn Noveck and Betty Silverfarb. Carole Kaf- tan is president of the league. ❑ Hanita Hosts Philip Vainik The National' Council of Jewish Women, Greater Detroit Section, will host a theater party on April 5. The event will feature a matinee performance of Broadway Bound at the Bir- mingham Theater, preceded by lunch at Oliverio's Restaurant. The group will assemble at 11:30 a.m. at the NCJW of- fices, 30233 Southfield Rd., Southfield, and will be bused to Birmingham. Chairman of the day is Edie Hoffman. The community is invited. Hanita Chapter, Na'amat/ USA, will have its guest speaker, Philip Vainik, on Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. in the Na'amat meeting room, 25900 Greenfield, Suite 205E, Oak Park. Vainik will speak on "Hamantashen and Humor." Vainik is the executive director of Congregation Beth Achim. He was educated at the University of South Africa and Hebrew Universi- ty in Jerusalem.
