QUALITY AND CONSISTENCY IS OUR PRIORITY!

J

How many gents can ever
recall sitting on a padded
lounge (mauve, of course) in
the rest room? . . . Outside of
the huge, clean kitchen, with
its mammoth gleams of
stainless steel, six large woks,
walk-in coolers and walk-in
freezer, large working areas,
etc., the men's room is the on-
ly place without mauve color-
ing throughout . . . The clean
tile is gray . . . However,
mauve is still carried out in
the chair and waste basket
color motifs.
Food doesn't get cool at the
Panda . . . It's gotten almost
immediately by servers who
put in the order and pickup in
seconds after their quick
readiness.
Another important dietary
factor is that the Panda will
make anything without salt
. . . and steam foods for per-
sons on low cholesterol diets.
There are live green plants
all over that give a subtle look
of elegance to a place that has
so much. The Panda is open
seven days a week, Monday to
Thursday, 11:30 a.m. to
9:30 p.m.; Friday, 11:30 a.m.
to 11 p.m.; Saturday, 3 p.m. to
11 p.m.; and Sunday, noon to
9:30 p.m.
On Sundays it has an all-
you-can-eat-for-$6.95 buffet
from noon to 4 p.m.
The Panda is also preparing
an extensive wine list . . . so
very unusual for a dining
establishment of this origin.
It is a Chinese restaurant
that doesn't scream Chinese
all over the place . . . In fact,
if you didn't know, or see the
menu, the Panda could be
your regular, elegant gourmet
restaurant.
About the menus at the
Panda . . . Everything is
reasonably priced . . . and so
good . . . the only persons who
wouldn't return are those who
have never been there .. .
Something for everybody's
palate is available . . . from
traditional Chinese dinners
galore, 13 appetizers, 10
soups, side orders, over 20
true Cantonese dishes,
special family dinners,
American cuisine, sand-
wiches, salads, authentic
Chinese, Szechuan and Hong
Kong foods, etc.
There was even something
for Barry Solomon, who likes
.Linda's pasta at home . . . He
ate rice with tomato sauce
and after dinner had sherbet
and an almond cookie .. .
Next time, you can be sure,
they'll make one or two or
three of those little "slider"
hamburgers for him . . . As
our mom, Mrs. Minnie
Raskin, used to say, "He's a
funny eater."
The Panda is sheer
elegance . . . in dining, decor

and service ... It is the fciurth
eating establishment at this
locale . . . and probably its
last . . . If our experience
among those of others who
have been there is any indica-
tion, the Panda is definitely
here to stay.

METROPOLITAN
MUSICAFE, corner of
Fourth and Lafayette in Royal
Oak, is the wonder of Nino
Catraro, also owner of Taboo
. . . It opened about three
months ago.
The decor is most unique
. . . with specially built nar-
row piano from which interior
juts a large oversized
keyboard that winds to the
ceiling, huge drumstick and
guitar for King Kong.
There's a 1960 pink
Cadillac with neon lighting
. . . and on the walls are fram-
ed silver and gold records,
dresses of stars like Aretha
Franklin, Madonna and Vana
White, one of Les Paul's
guitars, Wayne Newton's pic-

ture, posters galore, framed
paintings, plus one on the
ceiling with its mammouth
black ducts, black and white
checkered tablecloths, etc.
It's open for dinner seven
days 'til 10 p.m., with dancing
following . . . Wednesday
through Saturday is line-up
time outside.
Had a good lunch there
with Simone Vitale . . . stir-
fried chicken and vegetables
and redskin potatoes with
tomato sauce poured over
them.
Nino expects to soon open
another Metropolitan
Musicafe in Farmington Hills
. . . 12 Mile and Farmington
Road . . . with a different
decor.
Simone's name today is
Simon O'Talley's Irish Spring
Band . . . as he plays at
Malarkey's Pub, owned by
Gus, Gene and Steve Kasapis
of the Ram's Horn restau-
rants, on Wayne Road at War-
ren in Westland . . . Simone
says his group's the "authntic
Irish band because
Micaheliean Brandon Baily
Hume from Ballameania,
Ireland, will be singing with
them 12 p.m.-4 p.m., and 8
p.m.-1 a.m."
BROADWAY BOUND by
Neil Simon is B'nai B'rith
evening April 5 at Birm-
ingham Theater . . . General
chairman is Max Wayburn
. . . For more info and tickets,
call Bobbie Levine, 552-8177,
or Sharon Rappaport,
552-8070.
