Purim is just around the corner, and local congregations and Jewish organizations have prepared plenty of celebra- tions for the occasion. Adat Shalom Synagogue will hold its annual Purim carnival at 11 a.m. Sunday. The event will feature enter- tainment, games, prizes and refreshments. Participants are encouraged to come in costume. Celebrations continue at Adat Shalom on Monday, when the synagogue will hold a family Megillah service at 7 p.m. The Megillah will be read by Bradley Dock, Jonathan Blatt, Todd Rope, Erica Guyer, Mara Leichtman, Jason Vieder, Sarah Tigay, Jason Bieder- man and Trevor Hart. Clowns will entertain and explain the story of Esther during the reading. The synagogue's Purim Par- ty Plus, Adat Shalom's major fund-raiser for the year, will be held Tuesday. The party will feature cocktails and ap- petizers and dancing to the music of the Bill Meyers Or- chestra. Prizes include a 1989 Lincoln Town car, a trip to Israel and a big-screen TV. Purim festivities at Beth Abraham Hillel Moses begin at 7 p.m. Monday with a family Megillah reading following Minchah services at 6:45 p.m. Megillah readers will be Marc Blackman, Mat- thew Citron, Larry Mondry, Jason Rosen, Fred Smith, David Tessler and Michael Weiss. The Megillah will also be read 6:30 a.m. Tuesday at the synagogue. Congregation Beth Achim's annual Purim car- nival, sponsored by the synagogue youth department, will begin noon Sunday. The event will include games, prizes and refreshments. Beth Achim will also spon- sor an Israeli cafe night 7 p.m. Sunday. The activities begin with a light Israeli supper and dessert, followed by entertainment from the Hora Aviv Dancers. Mary Gamer is chairman of the event. A Purim carnival will be held 11:30 a.m. Sunday at Temple Beth El. Sponsored by the temple's Young Peo- ple's Society, the event will in- clude food, games and prizes. In Ann Arbor, Temple Beth- Emeth will hold a Purim carnival and Megillah reading 7 p.m. Monday. The Birmingham Temple 4 will celebrate Purim with a • family service 7:30 p.m. today. Students in the Temple School will participate under the direction of Elaine Ka- mienny. Sue Luria's 5th-grade class will present a creative program. A Purim carnival will follow the service.
