INAUGURAL MEETING
JDC Exec.
To Speak Here
Michael Schneider, ex-
ecutive vice president of the
American Jewish Joint
Distribution Committee
(JDC) will speak to the
Jewish Community Council
Delegate Assembly 8 p.m.
March 28 at Adat Shalom
Synagogue.
The JDC organizes and
finances rescue, relief and
rehabilitation programs for
Jews overseas. Programs of
the JDC benefit 500,00 Jews
in more than 30 countries,
primarily Israel, North Africa
and Europe.
Among the topics to be
discussed by Schneider, who
joined the JDC in 1978 from
the London Jewish Welfare
Board where he was director
of social work, is the plight of
Ethiopian Jewry.
He also will speak on the
nature of the relationship bet-
ween local Jewish agencies
and the JDC, how recent
changes in Soviet emigration
and cultural expression
policies impact Soviet Jews
and American Jews who ad-
vocate on their behalf, and
how political developments in
Europe and Africa affected
the role of American Jews in
their efforts to rescue Jews in
peril.
