OUR TRADITITON teaches us that education is not just for children, but a life long pursuit.
All of us who strive to deepen ourselves and enrich our understanding_ after our childhood
years are to be commended. So I commend you for your participation in this program of the
Center for Judaic Studies. I welcome you to Temple Beth El. We are delighted to be co-sponsoring
this program with the Center and we look forward to an ongoing and deepening relationship.

Dr. Bernard Lewis from his special vantage as the preeminent historian of the Near East is
prepared to help us understand the current condition of "Israel and the Middle East: Past, Pre-
sent and Future," a subject about which he has written extensively and profoundly. We are
honored by his presence and can expect to be enriched by his insights. We are Beth El are
delighted to help make this important experience available to the Detroit community.
