of the B'nei Akiva movement.
Brandy Sternberg, a member
of Chicago HaTzvi, concluded
the meal with a D'var Torah
about the unity of the people
of Israel. After Havdalah, the
group prepared for a sports
night at the Maple/Drake
Jewish Community Center.

On the way home, the
shevet stopped in a nature
park for a starlight naming
ceremony, in which Appel and
Yehudah Rothner, directors of
B'nei Akiva of Detroit and
Cleveland, respectively, of-
ficially declared the group
members of Shevet HaTzvi
worldwide. The remainder of
the evening was spent at a
casual pizza and ice cream
social.
"I had been planning on
coming to shevet weekend all
year long," said Nomi Lopin,
a former Detroiter of Seattle.
"It was great to see all my old
Detroit friends, and to have
time just to sit around and
talk about everything!"
After a bowling event at
Hartfield Lanes on Sunday
morning, the final moments
of shevet weekend drew to a
close. There were exchanges
of phone numbers and ad-
dresses, and even tearful
goodbyes, as the out of town
HaTzvi members boarded
their buses for home.
"B'nei Akiva's goal when
holding a convention of this
sort is to teach the kids how
to unite and work together as
one," says B'nei Akiva direc-
tor, Mrs. Appel. "Our Detroit
shevet members worked long
and hard for this Shabbaton,
and had to overcome a lot of
obstacles to make this
weekend a success. But they
did it. They proved to
themselves the true meaning
of becoming a shevet in
B'neiAkiva. We really are
proud at how superior this
weekend really was."
"I loved Shevet Weekend,"
said Natie Fox, a member of
Shevet HaTzvi of Chicago.
"The events were great, the
kids were great, the ruach
was great." El
