asked to appear on the televi-
sion show "Make Me Laugh"
in 1979. Baum was anything
but his last name — a bomb
— and became a regular corn-
edian recording 45 episodes in
the show's 1979-1980 season.
Then, he wrote for "The
Stockard Channing Show" on
CBS; he was also a series
regular. When the show was
discontinued a year later, he
made numerous appearences
on Showtime, HBO and
various cable specials such as
"Evening at the Improv" and
"My TV," a comedy spoof on
MTV that he wrote, directed
and hosted.
In 1987, he played the
mailman (a recurring
character) on "A Year in the
Life" on NBC. Baum has also
made appeapances on several
television comedy shows over
the past few years, including
"Growing Pains," "Full
House" and "Hollywood
Squares."
Besides The Adventures of
Baby Man, Baum also has
two more movies scheduled
for release this year, Martians
Go Home!, in which he stars
with Randy Quaid, and Kan-
dyland, in which he is a
special guest star.
Recording is another
medium in which he has
found success. Baum's album,
"Born to be Raised," was a
Billboard magazine Pick of
the Week. He also produced
the critically acclaimed inter-
national hit, "Marty Feldman
Eyes," also a Billboard's Pick
of the Week.
When Baum performs
stand-up, he includes enough
props in his act to fill a large
novelty store. He created an
on-stage video of his count-
down of the top 10 songs, in-
corporating several hilarious
visual aids to describe songs
such as "Eyes Without a
Face" and "In-a-gadda-da-
vida."
Baum has traveled all over
the country performing
stand-up. He's performed in
Lake Tahoe, headlined at the
Riviera in Las Vegas, and he
has toured with pop music ar-
tists Christopher Cross, Ken-
ny Loggins and Jefferson
Starship. "I like those concert
gigs because when you're per-
forming live in front of 15,000
people, that can be quite a
rush when that many people
are laughing" Baum said.
Besides performing at the
Riviera in Las Vegas, Baum
said he likes peforming in the
Motor City for two reasons. "I
really love headlining in
Detroit. Besides Cleveland,
it's the only town where. I
don't have to rely on a
cassette tape to hear good
rock and roll music," Baum
noted. "Also, the audience at
