THE TOWN-SEND HOTEL BRIDAL SHOW by the legendary Baruch Agadati, an active member of Aviv's artistic community in the 1920s and 1930s. Agadati was one of the coun- try's pioneer filmmakers. He travelled up and down the land filming scenes of life in the pre-state era, some of which were incorporated into newsreels and some into other formats, including This is the Land, released in 1935, which was the first sound film made entirely in Hebrew in Eretz Israel. The Agadati Collection also encompasses the entire out- put of Ya'akov Ben-Dov, the pioneer filmmaker, who had shot such scenes as Gen. Allenby's entry into Jerusalem at the head of British forces in 1917, Albert Einstein's visit to Palestine in 1923, and rare footage of the Old City of Jerusalem in the 1920s. "Counter Harmonies: Jewish Experience in 20th Century Music" will be the first major international forum to bring together Israeli and North American Jewish composers, per- formers, musicologists for in- tercultural exchange. The three days of panel discus- sions, lectures, roundtables, demonstrations and perfor- mances, will address the com- plex relationship between Jewish culture and contem- porary music, between Jewish identity and musical creativi- ty and between Israeli and North American musical traditions. As part of the total project, a national tour of Rinat- Israel's National Choir was organized under the direction of Stanley Sperber, and in- cluded appearances this week in Muskegon and at Con- gregation Shaarey Zedek in Southfield. The dialogue will take place in New York April 2-4.
