Israel Focus Of Joint
Detroit-Ann Arbor Series

A series of lectures entitled,
"Israel Idealsim — Realism
Challenging the Mind," will
be offered in March and April
under the auspices of the
Zionist Organization of
America — Metropolitan
Detroit District, Labor
Zionist Alliance Council of
Metropolitan Detroit, Labor
Zionist Institute, Habonim-
Dror, Na'amat USA —
Greater Detroit Council,
Jewish Community Center
and Jewish Welfare
Federation.
The first event is a con-
ference day to be held on Sun-
day at 10 a.m. at the
Rackham School of graduate
Studies at the University of
Michigan, 915 E.
Washington, Ann Arbor. Ad-
mission is free, and child care
will be available.
Among the issues to be
discussed: perception and
reality in Middle East repor-
ting, is sex discrimination an
issue in contemporary Israeli
society?, the impact of the
Palestinian uprising and
more. The film, Hide and
Seek, will be shown.
Guest speakers include:
Wolf Blitzer, Israel Peleg,
Nava Semel, Rachel Ben-
ziman, Brig. Gen. Amira
Dotan, Dr. Yosef Olmert and
Dr. Eli Rekhess.
The second lecture will take
place Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
at the Maple/Drake Jewish
Community Center. The topic
will be "Political Structure of
Israel — Does It Work?"
featuring Dr. Avi Ofek of
Haifa University.
A lecture will be held
March 22 at 7:30 p.m. at the
Maple/Drake Jewish Center.
Guest speaker will be Dr.
Yehuda Weinraub, former
editor-in-chief of the IDF
Journal. Dr. Weinraub will
speak on "Reality and
Ethical Values Facing Israel
in the Territories".
The final lecture is schedul-
ed April 2 at 2 p.m. at the
Jimmy Prentis Morris
Building of the Jewish Com-
munity Center. Anat Maor,
director of the Kibbutz Aliyah
Desk, formerly educational
officer in the I.D.F., will
speak.
