Scholarships
For Israel

Congregation Beth Achim
announces that applications
for scholarships for study in
Israel are now available to
young people who have com-
pleted the first year of college.
The Harry and Sarah Laker
Israel Youth Scholarship pro-
vides for a $2,500 grant to a
student • for study at one of
Israel's universities.
The Samuel and Dora
Kobaker Memorial Scholar-
ship provides for a student to
study at either a university in
Israel or an equivalent in-
stitution and offers a $1,500
grant.
The Robert and Gertrude
Berman Scholarship is of-
fered for a Judaic studies pro-
gram to be pursued either in
Israel, the United States or
any other country which pro-
vides for a serious program of
Jewish learning. This scholar-
ship also provides a $1,500
grant to the winner.
Applicants must have ap-
plied for admission to the in-
stitutions of their choice and
the winners must be prepared
to pursue study for an
academic year at the institu-
tions where they have been
accepted.

May 1. None will be accepted
late.

JPI Visits
SeniOrs On Purim

Students from the Jewish
Parents Institute will bring
shalach manot (Purim
parcels) to residents of the
Fleischman residence on
Sunday.
Students in JPI's nursery,
and Clubs one and two will
bring kosher treats to the
seniors and will entertain
them with Purim songs and
dances.

Aid For Summer
Study In Israel .

The Woman's Auxiliary-
United Hebrew Schools
Scholarship Commission an-
nounces that awards are
available to United Hebrew
School students for summer
study in Israel or for approv-
ed camps with Jewish and
Hebrew content. These
awards are based on achieve-
ment, not on financial need.
Scholarships are available
to United Hebrew Schools
graduates who are planning
to study at universities in
Israel or to those who are
seeking degrees in Jewish

communal service or Jewish
education.
Applications can be ob-
tained at the United Hebrew
Schools. Deadline is April 16.

Art Contest
Winners Cited

The Woman's Auxiliary of
the United Hebrew Schools
will honor the winners of the
student art contest and their
parents with a reception and
musical program to be held in
the LaMed Auditorium of the
United Hebrew Schools
building at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
The judges of the contest
are: Sylvia Iwrey, Betsy
Loomis and Deanna Sperka.
Cash awards will be
presented. All entries will be
displayed in the LaMed
Auditorium. The musical pro-
gram will be presented by
Sonny Lipenholtz and Vivian
Stollman.
Everyone is welcome. Re-
freshments will be served.

AIDS Response
Teaching Aid

New York — The latest
publication of the Coalition
for the Advancement of
Jewish Education (CAJE),
AIDS: Our Responsibility as
Jews, is intended to help
teachers in Jewish schools
deal with the question of how
to relate to a person with
AIDS.
The 20-page publication
was written by CAJE
members Rabbi Judy Z.
Abrams of Congregation Ner
Shalom, Woodbridge, Va., and
Rabbi Art Vernon, executive
director of the Bureau of
Jewish Education, Houston,
Texas, with a foreword by An-
dy Rose, AIDS project coor-
dinator, Jewish Family and
Children's Services, San
Francisco.
AIDS: Our Responsibility as
Jews provides a lesson plan to
be used with gitades ten and
up. It focuses on the concepts
of Pikuach Nefesh (caring for
the soul) and Bicur Cholim
(visiting the sick).
The publication also con-
tains a list of resources, in-
cluding books, articles,
videotapes and the names
and addresses of organiza-
tions in New York,
Washington and San Fran-
cisco that provide information
and/or help to people with
AIDS.
