Stern To Speak
At Midrasha
The Midrasha-College of
Jewish Studies, a division of
United Hebrew Schools, will
present the second lecture of
its four-part series, "Sundays
at the Midrasha," on Sunday
at 2:30 p.m.
Dr. Guy Stern, Distinguish-
ed Professor of Romance and
Germanic Languages at
Wayne State University, will
speak on "Thomas Mann and
the Jewish World."
Subsequent speakers in-
clude Maj. General Shlomo
Gazit, political analyst, Jaffee
Center for Strategic Studies,
Tel Aviv University and
Detroit Zionist Federation
scholar-in-residence, who will
speak on "The Reality of a
Palestinian State — A Step
Toward Peace?" on March 26
at 2:30 p.m.; and Corinne
Stavish, lecturer in speech
communication at Wayne
State University and
Lawrence Technological Uni-
versity, whose topic is "The
Theater of the Heart: The
History and Development of
the Yiddish Theater," at 7:30
p.m. April 9.
All of the lectures will be
held at the United Hebrew
Schools building, and are
open to the public at no
charge.
Fellowships
For Teachers
High school teachers in
social studies, history and
literature are invited to app-
ly for "The Holocaust and
Jewish Resistance" summer
fellowship program to be held
July 9-30 in Israel.
The three-week course,
sponsored by the American
Federation of Teachers, the
American Gathering of Jew-
ish Holocaust Survivors and
Educators' Chapter of the
Jewish Labor Committee, pro-
vides participants with ways
to develop cirriculum plans,
special projects and resources
to better transmit the events
and lessons of the Holocaust
to their students.
Included in the program are
trips to sites of historical in-
terest throughout Israel. The
fee for the fellowship program
is $2,500. Participants are
asked to pay $1,200 and the
other half is paid by an
American Gathering scholar-
ship. The fee includes air fare,
room and board and
materials.
