The first Israeli elections in

Prime Minister Levi Eshkol of
Israel died in Jerusalem.
Three Detroit rabbis, James I.
Gordon, Irwin Groner and Richard
Hertz, took part in the first United
Jewish Appeal rabbinical mission to
Israel.

Eliahu Epstein, Israel's first
envoy to the U.S., visited Detroit to
talk about the declaration of Israel's
statehood and the establishment of
diplomatic relations between the
largest and youngest democracies
in the world.

Beth Shalom, Temple Emanu-EI Plan Pre-School Events

Sunday, Feb. 26

Sunday, March 5

Congregation Beth Shalom will have a
pre-school program at 10 a.m. Sunday at the
synagogue, sponsored by the synagogue's
Jewish Experiences For Families committee.
"Sunday in the Park with J.E.F.F.,"
featuring a teddy bear clinic, music by the
Song Sisters and a puppet show with the
C-ermbusters of Sinai Hospital, will take place
at 1 p.m. Feb. 26 at Temple Emanu-El. Pre-
schoolers and their families are invited.

Sunday, March 12

Congregation Shaarey Zedek will host a
Bone Marrow Drive Family Awareness Day at
2 p.m. March 5 at the synagogue. There will
be Purim arts and crafts, entertainment,
music and a sing-along. Proceeds will benefit
the Hadassah Bone Marrow Drive. For
details, call Lynn Silverman, 365-4381.
Adat Shalom Nursery School will have a
Purim celebration entited, "Be Happy, It's
Adar," co-sponsored by Jewish Experiences
For Families on March 5. For details, call the
nursery, 851-5105.
Family Maple Sugar Day will be
observed at Camp Maas on March 5. Buses
will leave the United Hebrew Schools
building at 9:15 a.m. There is a fee. For

Temple Emanu-El will have a Purim
program for fourth-sixth graders and their
families at 10:30 a.m. March 12 at the
temple, co-sponsored by Jewish Experiences
For Families. For details, call Dottie Dressler,
967-4020.

Wednesday, March 1

Congregation Beth Shalom's Jewish
Experiences For Families committee will
have a general meeting at 7:30 p.m. March 1
at the synagogue.

Friday-Sunday, March 3-5

Friday-Sunday, March 10-12

Camp Maas will be the scene of spring
family camp March 3-5. Indoor and outdoor
activities are planned for the whole family.

A Bubbie-Zayde and Kinder weekend will
take place March 10-12 at the Butzel

Tuesday, March 14

Temple Shir Shalom will have a program
entitled, "Simply Symbols," focusing on
Jewish holidays and symbols, on March 14 at
the temple. The program, for pre-schoolers
and their families, is co-sponsored by Jewish
Experiences For Families. For details, call Flo
Bloch, 737-8700.

Friday, March 17

The Birmingham Temple will have its
Purim family service at 7:30 p.m. March 17 at
the temple. The evening will include the
Megillah reading, skits and plays, songs and
dances, parades and processions, a carnival
and holiday refreshments. Members are
requested to come in Purim costumes.

Sunday, March 19

The Great Purim Parcel Project, a
community-wide shalach manot project, will
take place March 19. The project is
sponsored by Jewish Experiences For
Families and The Jewish News'
L'Chayim section. For details, call J.E.F.F.,
661-0600.

Monday, March 20

The Jewish Experiences For Families
committee at Congregation Beth Shalom will
celebrate Purim with a family event at 6:30
p.m. March 20 at the synagogue. There will
be a story teller and craft projects will be
available.

Tuesday, March 21

A family seudah will take place at 6 p.m.
Tuesday at Congregation Beth Shalom,
sponsored by the Jewish Experiences For
Families committee.
