Women Give
Awards To Youth

The League of Jewish
Women's Organizations an-
nounces the 44th annual
Youth Awards will be
presented on Sunday at Con-
gregation Shaarey Zedek at
1:30 p.m. Rabbi Irwin Groner
will be the keynote speaker.
The honorees are high
school seniors who have ex-
celled in scholarship, com-
munity leadership, volunteer
and service activities as well
as having had a Jewish
education. Each participant
has written an essay on
"Anti-Semitism — Personal
Strategies for Coping."
The judges are Dennis
Aaron, Oakland County com-
missioner; Jacqueline Zeff,
dean of Mercy College; Ira
Firestone, professor of
psychology, Wayne State
University; Marla Parker, at-
torney; and Dorothy Cohen,
past president, League of
Jewish Women's
Organizations.
Betty Silverfarb will pre-
sent the awards.
A reception will follow.
Refreshments will be served
by Sandy Schwartz, presi-
dent, and members of the
Sisterhood of Congregation
Shaarey Zedek.
Charlotte K. Nussbaum
and Eadie Albion are co-
chairmen of the Youth Award
program. The public is
invited.

Panel Topic

The Jewish Professional
Network of B'nai B'rith
Women will hold a panel
discussion March 15 at the
Somerset Inn, entitled "Suc-
cessful Women and Their
Stories."
Brenda Burdge, president of
Burdge, Inc., State Sen. Max-
ine Berman, Peggy Daitch,
Detroit sales manager for
Vogue magazine and Beverly
Payne will be part of the
panel.

UHS Women
To Hear Review

The Woman's Auxiliary of
the United Hebrew Schools
will present Dr. Anna
Mandelbaum, specialist, in
Latin American literature,
who will review the novel,
The Fragmented Life of Don
Jacobo Lerner by Isaac
Goldemberg, at noon March
8. A brief business meeting

will precede the book review.
Coffee and cake will be
served.
On March 12, at 2:30 p.m.,
prizes will be awarded to the
winners of the Auxiliary
sponsored UHS Student Art
Contest celebrating Israel's
40th anniversary. The art
work of all the students who
entered the contest will be
displayed. At the reception
honoring the students and
their families, refreshments
will be served and Sonia
Lipenholtz will be served.
Both events will take place
at the United Hebrew Schools
LaMed Auditorium.

Evergreen
Group To Meet

The Evergreen Group of
Hadassah will meet on March
7 at 7:45 p.m., in the home of
Marcia Kersch, 15810 . Ad-
dison, Southfield.
The speaker will be Dr.
Firooz Banooni, a former resi-
dent of Thheran, Iran. He will
talk on Iranian Jewry
celebrating Purim: "From the
Shah to Khomeini."

Breast Cancer -
Meeting Set

The next meeting of Just
Between Us will be held on
March 7 at 7 p.m. in the Sut-
ton Place club house. Just
Between Us is an informal
self-help group for women
who have had breast cancer
surgery and/or related disease
or problems.
Reservations are a must.
Call the patient services
department of the American
Cancer Society in Oakland
County, 557-5353, to reserve
a spot.

Health Series
To Conclude

The National Council of
Jewish Women, Greater
Detroit Section, will conclude
its four-part health series at
9:30 a.m. March 8. The com-
munity is invited to take part
in the program, "Breast
Cancer: Every Woman's Con-
cern."
Dr. Donald Blitz of Sinai
Hospital and Dr. Robert
Bloom of the University of
Michigan Hospital will lead
discussions along with a
Sinai Hospital social worker.
There is a charge. The ses-
sion will take place at the
NCJW offices, 30233 South-
field Road, Southfield.

Detroit Consumer Affairs
Department, will speak.
Director since 1974, Ms.
Shapiro oversees a broad pro-
gram of consumer education,
information, research and the
enforcement of city consumer
ordinances.
There is a nominal charge

Fashion Show
And Brunch Set

Temple Israel Sisterhood
will present its spring brunch
and fashion show on March
13 at 10 a.m. at the temple.
Adelle Miller will provide
entertainment on the piano
during the brunch. Janie
Roth, program vice president,
and her entertainment com-
mittee, Marlene Swarin and
Karen Erlich, organized the
event.
There is a nominal fee for
