Shaarey Zedek To Host
Israel National Choir

RINAT the Israel National
Choir, will present a variety
of choral works including
liturgical, symphonic, folk
and modern, at Congregation
Shaarey Zedek 7:30 p.m.
March 9. Music director
Stanley Sperber will conduct
the 38-member choir.
Ernst Bloch's "Yihu Lerat-
zon," Aharon Charlap's "The
Sacrifice of Isaac," Felix
Mendelssohn's "Lift Thine
Eyes," Charles Ives' "Psalm
67" and Marc Lavry's "Hora"
are among the works the
choir will present.
The performance at
Shaarey Zedek is part of a na-
tionwide tour sponsored by
the National Foundation for
Jewish Culture to help
celebrate Israel's 40th
.anniversary.
Founded in 1955 by Gary
Bertini, the choir's first con-
ductor, RINAT was
designated the Israel Na-
tional Choir in 1975. It has
presented premiers of
numerous works by Israeli
composers includng Paul Ben-
Haim, Aharon Charlap, An-
dre Hajdu, Joseph Tal and
Mordechai Stet
The choir has appeared in
concert in France, Germany,
Italy, Holland, Canada and
the United States. Past per-
formances include an ap-
pearance in London in 1983
with the London Philhar-
monic Orchestra and at the
Ottobeuren Festival in Ger-
many in 1984. Last year, the
choir appeared with the Israel
Philharmonic Orchestra in a
staged production of Bizet's
"Carmen" and an interna-
tionally televised production

RINAT Appears
In Muskegon

RINAT, the Israel National
Choir, will perform at 8 p.m.
March 6 at Hope College in
Holland, and at 8 p.m. March
7 at the Frauenthal Theater
in Muskegon.
The choir also will par-
ticipate in workshops with
local school choirs and per-
form for area employees.
RINAT's appearance is
being presented by the
Jewish Centennial Commit-
tee, which incluldes profes-
sionals from 14 cultural,
educational and religious
organizations in Muskegon,
as the grand finale of musical
performances offered as part
of Muskegon's Jewish centen-
nial celebration.
There is a charge for the
concerts.

Admission to the concert is
free. The event is being hosted
by Shaarey Zedek's Men's
Club in cooperation with the
Cultural Commission.

Join In Service

Hillel. Day School students
and their families will par-
ticipate in Shabbat services
at Congregation Beth
Abraham Hillel Moses, begin-
ning with Minchah and con-
cluding with Havdalah, at
5:30 p.m. Saturday.
The Minchah service will
be conducted by children of
the following families: Ken-
neth Apsel, Michael Bellet,
Alan Bleyer, Sheldon
Freilich, Jerry Frolich, Ed-
ward Goldberg, Edward
Goldman, Jacob Kalo, Gerald
Katzman, Ben-Zion Lanxner,

The service is the program
of the Family Programming
Committee of Beth Abraham
Hillel Moses. Gloria Ruskin is

Students Hear
Rabbi Lewis

Rabbi Albert M. Lewis of
Temple Emanuel in Grand
Rapids will speak at St.
thomas the Apostle Elemen-
tary School in Grand Rapids
on "Jewish Roots of Chris-
tianity" and "Famous Jewish
People" on March 15. The au-
dience will be sixth- to eighth-
grade students and is spon-
sored by the Jewish Chautau-
qua Society.
