tein; six grandchildren and
two great-grandchildren.

LOUIS REINER, 93, died
Feb. 18. He leaves a son,
Robert; and three grandsons.

IRVING ROTH died Feb. 19.
Survived by four sons,
Lawrence of Farmington
Hills, Alan of Port Huron,
Gordon and Terry of Los
Angeles, Calif.; a sister, Rose
Goldfarb; a brother, Harry;
and seven grandchildren.

DAVID RUBIN, 61, of Oak
Park, died Feb. 18. Survived
by a brother, Alex; two sisters,
Mrs. Edna Gold and Mrs.
Sarah Citron; nieces and
nephews.

MORRIS SCHECHTER,
86, of West Bloomfield, died
Feb. 19. Survived by his wife,
Sarah; a daughter, Mrs.
Lillian Kellman; a brother,
Jack; five grandchildren and
eight great-grandchildren.

BETTY L. STRICKSTEIN,
57, died Feb. 15. She leaves
two sons, Alan and Robert of
New York; a daughter, Susan
Quay; her father, Irving
Lelgant; three sisters, Selma
Fisch of Arizona, DeeDee
Meyers and Lillian Price; and
three grandchildren.

CHARLES TOBE of Lon-
don, England, died Feb. 20.
Survived by two children,
Martin Tobe and Jean
Bartlett, both of London; a
brother, Alec of London; two
sisters, Rachel Tobe and Min-
nie Schwartz, both of
Southfield; three grand-
children and one great-
grandchild. Interment
England.

Myron Schecter

Myron "Susie" Schecter, a
Wayne State University Hall
of Fame and Michigan Jewish
Sports Hall of Fame honoree,
died Feb. 20 at age 83. He
resided in North Miami, Fla.,
at the time of his death.
Born in Russia, Mr.
Schecter came to the U.S. in
1910. He began an interest in
basketball at the old Hannah
Schloss Building — forerun-

ner of the Jewish Communi-
ty Center.
In 1925-1926 at City Col-
lege of Detroit — forerunner
of Wayne State University —
he was the first college player
to score more than 200 points
in a single season. The follow-
ing year he captained the best
team the school ever had.
Following graduation with a
degree in accounting, Mr.
Schecter played semi-
professional basketball.
When his basketball career
ended in 1930, he went into
the coal business, worked for
Briggs Manufacturing and
had a career at the now-
defunct Detroit Times. In his
spare time, he coached a team
in the Catholic League. When
the Times closed, Mr.
Schecter went into the real
estate business until his
retirement in 1972.
He was elected to the
Wayne State University Hall
of Fame in 1980 and to the
Michigan Jewish Sports Hall
of Fame in 1987.
He leaves his wife, Rose; a
son, Allan of West Bloomfield;
a daughter, Mrs. Suzanne
Shaw of Ypsilanti; eight
grandchildren and three
great-grandchildren. Inter-
ment Detroit.

Jack Hoffman

Jack Hoffman, a retired
Chrysler Motors trim repair-
man, died Feb. 15 at age 82.
Born in Montreal, Que., Mr.
Hoffman lived 55 years in
Detroit. He was a member of
Downtown-Fox Lodge of B'nai
B'rith and Jewish Welfare
Federation and actively took
part in the Allied Jewish
Campaign. He was a delegate
to the Jewish Community
Council and a member of the
Senior Men's Club of
Southfield.
He leaves his wife, Alice;
two sons, Merle of Virginia
and Gerald; and two
grandchildren.

WE REMEMBER

During the coming week Yeshiva Beth Yehudah will observe the Yahrzeits of the following departed friends,
with the traditional Memorial Prayers, recitation of Kaddish and studying of mishnayos.

49.
Born in Detroit, Mrs. Ruby
became licensed as a health
care administrator in 1972.
