ment to her life would be an accepted procedure to many if not most Halachic authorities. According to all authorities, a fetus is secondary to the life of the mother and is aborted when it constitutes a direct danger to the mother's life. This hinges as to whether the fetus is seen as a part of the mother, a separate but doubtful and therefore secon- dary subsidy, or a viable but incomplete entity only to be removed when pursuing the mother's life. Those who claim that life begins in the womb are only partially right. Those who claim that life begins at birth are again only partially right. The fetus is an emerging and developing entity both in life and in legal description. Either definition taken by itself would constitute an in- fringement on the rights of the mother's life or that of the child. The wanton abuse of defin- ing the child in either fashion is reprehensible. However the proliferation of abortion for reasons other than aforementioned con- stitute a form of destruction of life which is reprehensible at the very least and at worst one step below homicide.
